Being a Man in a Man’s World

According to John Gray, “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.” Meaning that men and women are a complete different species when it comes to our thoughts, as well as, how we essentially “deal with” and perceive the world. Men are to be masculine (Mars: god of  war) and women are to be feminine (Venus: goddess of love and beauty).

I don’t know how anyone else feels about this saying, but I call bullshit on the whole thing. Who says that a man has to always maintain masculinity? And a woman, her femininity? I’m realizing more and more that regardless of all the social norms that society has created both men and women are more alike than we might actually think. But in this post, I want to focus more on the men because more often than not we don’t realize what the fellas go through. And to go even more in depth… I want to point out how uncommon it is for us to accept that men have feminine characteristics too.

This past Sunday I was talking to a friend and he said something really interesting that I’ve been dying to share.

Donnaven, if you’re reading this thanks for letting me quote you, here’s your limelight…

“Everyone needs a therapist. Everyone needs someone they can talk to that actually specializes in how the brain works, emotions, stress etc… A person can be going insane because they can’t deal with life and they don’t understand why they’re going through certain things. I was talking to a married man and he told me that a man will commit suicide faster than a woman because a women was created to endure. Men, we are hunters. And I was thinking of how true that is. Because the suicide rate is higher in men than it is in women. As women, y’all are meant to endure with depression, emotional stress, etc… Men, if we get depressed we have a higher chance of doing a drug overdose which is just like suicide. Women, y’all get consoled when y’all go through things. Like through your friends, family, etc… Men, we brush it under the rug and try to hide it from our friends, family, etc… in order to “be a better man.” In reality, females are more masculine and males are more feminine. It’s happening now. The reason guys are turning gay at a crazy rate is because of the fact that they can’t find a woman that knows and accepts they have feminine qualities. If a male finds a female that understands and accepts that, the man’s masculinity will flourish because he knows he doesn’t have to worry about being judged. Same for women. If she finds a man that understands and accepts that she has masculine qualities the woman will be less aggressive in the relationship. And thus, embrace her natural biblical duties as a woman.”
